Pune District Education Association's Baburaoji Gholap College, Sangvi, Pune 411 027 was established in the year of June 1989 with the motivation of Late Educationalist Prof. Ramakirshna More, former President of Sansatha.

The college was established to provide the higher education to the masses coming from the middle class and economically weaker section of the society in the Sangvi and nearby rural areas of Aundh, Pimple Gurav, Pimple Nilakh, Theragon, Kalewadi, Baner etc. It was the first the senior college in Sangvi.

Since 1989, the college is progressing very fast and started number courses as per the demands of students enrolling for the higher education. Presently, the college is offering the different undergraduate courses, B.A. in Marathi, English, History, Economics, Political Science, B.Sc. in Chemistry, Physics, Botany, B.Sc. Computer Science, B.Com. and B.B.A. in computer application. Recently, college started two vocational degree courses in Fashion Technology and Software Development.At postgraduate level, the college offers different courses: M.A. in Marathi, English, History, Economics, Political Science, M.Sc. in Analytical Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, Physics, M.Sc. in Computer Science, M.Com. in Banking & Finance, Cost & Works Accounting, M.C.A. in Computer Application under Commerce, M.C.A. in Computer Application under Science, and Post graduate Diploma in Business Management. The college is having the research center in Economics, Chemistry, Physics and Environmental Science affiliated to Savitribai Phule Pune University. Further, to inculcate the various soft skills among the higher education going generation, different add on courses and career oriented courses are also conducted alongwith main degree programs.

The college is organizing regularly number activities for the overall development of students. The teaching-learning activities include seminar, group discussion, quiz competition, guest lectures etc. The different research activities like seminar, workshop conference, expert lectures etc. are also organized by the college. The skills are inculcated among the students through soft skill development programs, student welfare programs and sports activities. The college is having very good institute-society interface, where in number of extension activities beneficial to the society are taken through adult education programmee and national social service. For better employability of outgoing students through community-industry-institute interface, placement and alumni committees are taking great efforts.

During the span of last 25 years of establishment, college has done the huge infrastructural development. The rigorous efforts in this direction resulted into the today's glorious interior and campus development. The ICT tools enabled departments, ICT classrooms, well equipped laboratories, well resourced knowledge resource center, staff-meeting room, sophisticated Instrumental Analysis Facility Centre with high end equipments for research, research laboratories, departmental libraries, various cells-IQAC, NCC, NSS, conference hall, sufficient administrative wing, well equipped gymnasium, sports ground, botanical garden, water harvesting plant, compost pit, honey bee plant, solar system, canteen etc. are the part of this development.

The college has different achievements during the last two decades: permanent affiliation to the various courses by Savitribai Phule Pune University, Pune, inclusion of college under sections 2(f) and 12(B) by University Grant Commission, New Delhi, sanctioned General Development Assistance, sanctioned Community College Scheme, B.Voc. Program, by University Grant Commission New Delhi, sanctioned DST-FIST scheme by Department of Science and Technology, New Delhi, sanctioned Star College Scheme by Department of Biotechnology, New Delhi, Jagar Janivancha - 2013 and 2014 first prize at University level by Government of Maharashtra and 'Best College Award' by Savitribai Phule Pune University, Pune. The various grants received to the college are utilized for general development of the college, enhancing the research activities, to improve the science teaching at undergraduate level, to start the skill development programs.

The college has taken various initiatives for the welfare of staff. The research center in Economics, Chemistry, Physics and Environmental Science enables teachers and research students for conducting innovative research in advanced areas. The college organizes regularly state-national-international level research conventions and discussions for shearing and exchanging ideas related to intellectual outputs. The college supports the staff attending such types of conventions happening at national and international levels.

The college encourages and permits the staff for pursing higher degrees under the faculty improvement programmee. The college also sanctions the duty leaves to staff for upgrading their knowledge under human resource development programme.

The various academic committees are in force and involved in the overall development of the college in consultation with the steering committee and under the valuable guidance of the Hon. Principal and Management. These committees strive hard for establishing, sustaining and upgrading the student centric quality education among all students and teaching cum research culture among teachers.

Presently, due to the rapid urbanization of college locality and change in eco socio profile of the students, the needs and demands of higher education going generation are changing very fast. The expectations of these aspirants from college are changing from traditional to ICT enabled education. To meet the requirements of foremost generation with upholding quality standard of education, college is upgrading the educational facilities periodically at various levels like academics, infrastructure, finance, research, collaboration and employment by defining and executing the perspective plan.

For overall harmonious development and empowerment of the students and cultivating the talents, all kinds of supports with highest educational standards in various educational domains are provided to our students. Further, a very conductive teaching and research atmosphere is maintained in college campus. With this, I believe that college will become premier educational institute in very near future in Sangvi locality.

I am very glad to express my gratitude to all teaching and non-teaching staff for such stupendous growth of the college since the year of establishment.
